Sewing Room Organization: Ironing Station
Today I am here to make good on a promise I made you. Remember back in January, when I was filled with good intentions and showed you the extra storage space I created for my attic craft room? Right. That part of the project is still going strong. But I also mentioned that I had carefully cropped out the outer side of that landing since it was a big old mess.
Well no longer. That bit of wall has been reclaimed and put to good use.
It is now my ironing station as part of the sewing room part of my attic.
Again, I am working here under a slanted roof, with all kinds of utility pipes running over those spare bits of wall space I have. So I did not have much room to be creative with but I made it work.
I really needed a good spot to keep my ironing board and iron. Any half baked seamstress knows that good ironing determines at least half the outcome of a sewing project. So it needed to be close by, but also out of the way when not in use. In short I needed a sewing room ironing station.
I have learned the hard way that if cleaning up is bothersome, when things don’t have a proper home, when storage is not easily accessible, then stuff just doesn’t get put away.
Giving my iron and my ironing board and some of my most used ironing accessories (water and spray bottle) a home of their own, will help me so much in actually putting them away after use.
And the landing looks so much better now when you walk up the stairs to my attic.
I found the decal of the chandelier ages ago in a dollar store over here in the low lands. The silhouettes of the ironing board, iron and spray bottle were designed and cut by hand you yours truly. I am still not the lucky owner of a awesome gadget like a Cricut or Silhouette so my decal projects have to be simple and of Kindergarten level all the way. After all I can do many things but drawing a proper straight line, or drawing anything even remotely intricate is not in my bag of tricks.

Ah, my little organizing heart is so happy at the sight of this. A little order restored, a little beauty added and life simplified.
I love a good little organization project any day.
So how do you store your ironing gear? Have an ironing station in your sewing room / corner?
